NEEDED . . .

a kind and patient person with a soft voice,
a gentle touch, and a loving heart.

          Several of the dogs and cats at the shelter are in desperate need of a permanent home or a foster home (until they are adopted).  These animals have special needs, either physical or emotional, and will be wonderful, cooperative and heart-warming pets.

         Why not consider being a foster parent for a kitten (or two). Many kittens arrive at the shelter too young to be adopted. Fostering a kitten will allow it to be handled by many family members including children. It will also enable a kitten to become accustomed to other animals, i.e. dogs and cats in a family setting.  You, too, can become a foster parent for a kitten in need. Call or stop by the shelter for more information.

        The following cats/dogs are in need of special medical care or have been at the shelter for many years and, hopefully, will be able to enjoy their remaining years in the caring and nurturing atmosphere of a private home.  These pets are filled with love to share and would adapt well in a new environment. They all have been spayed or neutered, and are up-to-date with their vaccinations.                                        PHOEBE

  FOSTER HOMES DESPERATELY NEEDED

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The New Rochelle Humane Society is always in need of temporary foster homes for cats, kittens, and dogs. Foster homes enable each animal to be given the extra time and care it needs so that it can be comfortably adopted..
                    Each foster home requirement is different.
A few of our most common types of foster placements that are needed are listed below.
Kittens eating on own- Five to eight-week-old kittens eating on their own, but too young to be adopted. These little orphans need their foster caretaker to feed them four times a day, generally every six hours. Food and supplies will be provided, along with support. This kind of foster care requires a one to three week commitment.
Kittens needing socialization- These young kittens are eating on their own, but need one-on-one socialization. This foster care requires a one to two week commitment. Supplies and support will be provided.
Bottle fed kittens- This group varies in age from one day old to five weeks old. These kittens need to be fed by bottle every couple of hours. This foster care requires a one to eight week commitment, depending, of course, on the age of the kittens. Support and supplies will be provided.     Never bottle fed a kitten? Training is also provided.
Mother cat and kittens- Although this sounds like a lot of work, it is actually the easiest of all our foster placements. Provide mom with her own room, litter box and food and the mother cat does all the work of feeding and cleaning the kittens. You will  enjoy playing with them and watching the kittens grow. Supplies and support are provided.
Kittens with mild Upper Respiratory infections- Requires a foster home with no other cats or the ability to keep these cats completely separated. These cats/kittens with Upper Respiratory Infections need daily medication and time to recover. Supplies and support are provided.
Dog with Behavioral concerns- These dogs are stressed because they are living in a kennel environment. They must be placed in a foster home where the caregivers  have experience working with dogs. Generally speaking, this foster care requires a minimum of a two week commitment.
