    Baby Lily                        Lily's best friend

Hi ~

As promised, here are pictures of Lily, who we adopted back in March. I put some captions on the pictures to give you an idea of what she's been up to. Since the day we got her, she has been the mellowest, calmest, most well-behaved puppy I've ever seen. She has never run away, gone through the garbage, chewed up shoes or furniture, jumped on the table, or anything else bad. I bring Lily to work every day, at Corner Cottage Flowers, so we had to teach her not to jump on customers, not to chew the stuffed animals and not to eat the flowers. She learned this very quickly and we never had any stuffed casualties. (She will occasionally bury her treats in odd places in the store, which I've included a picture of.) She has actually become the mascot for the entire building so she often lays in the hallway that leads to the rest of the businesses and greets everyone's customers. Many people come pet her on their break for their own moment of stress-relief.  (There are pictures of her laying under clothing racks, which I don't sell. She was "borrowed" by one of the other businesses to sit outside while they had a sidewalk sale.) I often have people asking me if we put her on "doggy-downers" because she is just so well-behaved. She isn't bothered by excited children or anyone touching her paws or walking over her. She loves other dogs and always wants to play, never even showing small signs of aggression.

When we adopted Lily, we wanted to make her a community dog so we asked all of our customers' children to submit names for her and were sent hundreds of suggestions. We even gave out prizes for the name picked and runner-up. She loves walking through town and is often recognized by people wherever we go. (No one knows my name, but everyone knows Lily.) She even caught the eye of Brendan Frasier while he was driving through town, who had to stop and bring his son over to pet her because she is that magnetic. (She really is striking with her white coat and light eyes.) Sometimes she draws small crowds on the main street in town because people want to stop and pet her so much. Now that Lily is almost 6 months old, we have put in an application for her to become a therapy dog. This starts with an interview/assessment and will hopefully lead to her enriching the lives of even more people in a deeper way. We are really hoping that she can be a true ambassador for APBTs as well as shelter dogs. She has come a long way from her days of having a hernia and hobbling along on her severely flat paws. (We used to have to carry her on parts of walks because she would start limping after a bit.) Our vet really wasn't sure if she would ever get better, but she has proven to be a sweet-hearted fighter and has made it through.

I hope more people will be able to rescue such sweet animals from you in the future. We couldn't imagine life without our little Lily now, and we could only wish for your other adopters to be as lucky as we are.

Thanks for everything!

~Nan

  BAILEY'S NEWS...

To all the kind people at the New Rochelle Human Society,

I had the great joy of adopting Bailey from you last June. He is a wonderful,
sweet, crazy, loveable dog. Everyone who meets him falls instantly in love, as
I did, and they all get the famous 'Wheaten Greetin'! When I first met Bailey,
I must admit, he wasn't much to look at. Mostly shaved down to the skin with
some scraggly hair on his face and feet. But there was something in those eyes.
One look, and it was all over.
So home we went and I'm so glad 'he chose me.' He takes long walks every day,
with me and the dog walker, loves going to the dog park to frolic with his new buddies
on the weekends, or just going for a ride in the car. He's very smart, too, which makes
him kind of hard to please when trying to play games. He'll chase and retrieve the ball
or whatever toy you throw a few times, then looks at you like, 'is that all you got? He's
looking much better these days, too, so I thought you might like to see a few recent
pictures. There's one of Bailey and my niece, Nicole, who walked into my
house the day after I got him, and within seconds of seeing him,
screamed, 'I love you!.' They're still best buddies.  The other picture
is of Bailey after coming from the groomers this past St. Patrick;s Day. He's a fine
lookin' fella, isn't he? I just wanted to thank you all again.

       Best Regards,
              Mary & Bailey M.

  lenny's mom writes...

Lenny has discovered life outside of the laundry room!
Although it has taken him since last Friday to venture more
than a few feet out of our laundry room he has now conquered
his fear of the great "outdoors" (really the inside of our house
as he is NOT going to be going outside) He's made it all

throughout our first floor and down to our family room in the
basement. He just loves the stairs. He's only ventured to the
top floor once so he has yet to explore the bedrooms. We'll send pictures as
soon as we can.

       Happy, happy  danni

To all my great friends at the NRHS,

I thought you would like to know that I am doing just fine in my new home.  It has been just about a week and now and my new daddy and I are inseparable!  It hasn’t taken me long to make myself right at home here. I already have a great spot on the couch just for me!
We love to go for runs in the park and at grandma’s house!  I have already made so many new friends, dogs and people!  Everyone loves me!.  Daddy and his girlfriend are so proud of how smart I am.They love working with me and teaching me new things (I don’t have the heart to tell them I just do it for the yummy treats!)
Daddy gave me my first bath this weekend and I thought I behaved very well… I only tried to escape from the tub once!  I think it’s going to be great here and I’m so happy I picked Jon to be my new daddy.

We have a lot in common. We both like to watch hockey and we both snore!!!!

Speaking of snoring, its time for one of my many naps!  I’ll keep in touch.  Hope you all are doing well.

Love,

    Danni

I adopted Kayla on September 8, 2007 from your shelter.
She has made enormous progress and looks younger and younger
every day. The vets at the Humane Society said that other some
periodontal disease, she's in perfect health. And just a few weeks
ago, she started running! If we go for a walk off-leash, and I start
running down the street, she runs right after me! It's incredible to
watch. She's learned to sit, particularly for her meals and for her
leash to be put on; she's learned to stay; and after several months
of practice, I can take her for walks off-leash because she's learned
to come to my call every time. She's lost weight and she loves to meet
strangers and, of course, other dogs on the street.
She's changed my life for the better and I hope I've changed hers.
We're the perfect team, and I have you guys at the shelter to thank
for that! I've attached some pictures of her because I can't help it:
she's adorable.

      Sincerely,
          Clare S.

I thought you might be interested in knowing how Rin is doing.
Since coming home with me he has been given the name of Katsu.
He is much more outgoing now, not shy at all! He has become very
close to my cat Mayo - who I adopted from you last September
(I believe you called him Olsen.) Katsu is happy as a clam, loves to
snuggle, loves his food, loves to chase his big brother Mayo all around.
I thought you all might like to see a picture of Mayo and Katsu relaxing
in their cat tree.
        Best regards,

               Hanna O.

Dearest friends at the New Rochelle Humane Society,

Thank you for the phone call the other day! We had meant to send an
update sooner but things have been busy around here the past few months.
Donovan is doing great! He bounced back from his kennel cough just
fine and has been a bundle of energy since we brought him home. He gets
along great with our cats and rabbit. He gets compliments from everyone
we meet out on our walks. Speaking of which, he walks wonderfully on a
leash now that we have a harness for him. People love his markings and
personality, he's always smiling. He's still experiencing some
separation anxiety when left alone but things are improving over time. Since
we tend to take him with us places more often than not, it's a good
thing Donovan loves car rides, in fact we recently took a trip down to
Virginia to help out a friend and Donovan loved every minute of it. He is
also quite partial to spending afternoons in the backyard playing with
his wubba. Let me tell you, Donovan is addicted to snow, he also
 loves to swim.
We hope everyone down there is well, we're hoping to make a trip down
sometime soon so Donovan can visit with everyone. Please enjoy the
attached pics in the meantime of our pretty boy doing what he loves to do
 (playing and sleeping).

Take care!
Derek, Kathy and Donovan

Hi.

We're sending you pics of the former Suzy.  She is now Frankie and she loves her new home.  She learned her new name in only a couple of days!  She's sooooo smart.  She needs to be reminded that the outside is for "doing her business", but aside from that, she's a perfect little angel and we can't even imagine life without her.  Thank you so much for your help with the adoption!

To my friends at the shelter,

Just thought I would drop a note to tell
you how happy I am in my new home. My family doesn't call me
Donald any more (apparently they have a human family member with
the same name) so my new name is GUS. I like it and learned it
very quickly!I get along great with the big guy on the bed next
to me (Cash)! He took me around the 8 acres and introduced me to
the horses and the barn cats. My parents take me for lots of walks
and we get to play a lot too! I am learning to fetch the ball and
keep it away from Cash!

Well, I will keep in touch~just wanted to let you guys know
I am very happy at my new home!

 Love Gus

Hi,
I thought you'd like to see Biscuit in her new home. We've learned a
lot about her in the past few days. I think she was crated at night
at her old home, because she saw the crate we used to housebreak Chloe
and has started sleeping in it at night. She and Chloe love to run in the
yard, but Biscuit is not a fan of the cold. She is a complete
cuddlebug and wants to be right next to you (or the fireplace). In fact,
she's sleeping on my feet right now. The photos of her are attached.

Back in early Oct. 2007, I adopted this young kittie, who at that time, was named "Trout".
Well, I just wanted to let you know how we are doing and this is a recent photo of her in my home.
I re-named her "Irma", which seems to very much suit her and she knows
this name now. She really is adorable...incredibly active and
playful....mischievous of course, given her keen curiosity about
everything!!! She is also sweet, extremely smart and very, very funny.
She makes me laugh often....she loves to hide on me and then dart out
and ambush my shoes and shoelaces.
I adopted Irma after losing my beloved 20 year old tiger tabby cat,
Sammy,in September. Irma has been a very high maintenance kitty.    About two weeks
after I brought her home, she broke out in a severe case of ringworm which took two months
of intense treatments to resolve. Then she developed an upper respiratory infection and we
resolved that...then round worms in early January...but we have gotten through that.

I am happy to say, I think Irma is finally pretty healthy.
I am hopeful that, as our relationship deepens, she will become more of
a lap cat...this has been gradually occurring. I must say...she is a pistol and I have fallen in love.
I have had some pretty devastating losses in my life of loved ones in the past several months, and
having her around is an enormous comfort.

So...thank you for Irma. I think she would agree she is very happy in her new home with me.

               Janice G.

Hi,

We just wanted to let you know that we changed Silky's
name to Selena (after Selena Kyle, the original Catwoman).
After we left the humane society, Selena was a little nervous
riding in the car. After taking her out of the carrier, we noticed she
liked looking out the window. Selena is such a happy kitty, purring all
the time and starting to turn into a lap cat :-)) and she's adjusting quite
well to her new home. My husband, son and I spoil her rotten- she likes
to be on the couch with us watching TV on her own blanket, preferably
curled up next to my husband. And, she LOVES Pounce! We ended up
having to put a bell on her collar so we would know where she was-
there are PLENTY of places for a little kitten to hide in our house.
She also loves her new bed, as long as her blanket it in it!  I've
attached a few pictures of Selena. It's only been 4 days, but we
are so happy with the latest addition to our home!

                                             JACK AND RICKY

Just wanted to send a letter of appreciation.

Ricky renamed his dog Jack. As you can see, Ricky and Jack have
filled a wonderful Christmas true story of a boy and his dog. The
two are already partners in many adventures in New Jersey, having
great fun together.

Thank you again for all your work in preparing this terrific
 dog for adoption.

    Happy New Year!

"Misfit" is now Simon, and he doing great here at

home!  He and Oscar are getting along very well - they are eating together, playing together, sleeping together.  Simon has a very loud purr, is very cuddly with me, and is VERY MUCH enjoying running around the house!

I got my two boys at the
New Rochelle Human Society over 9 years ago, and they brought me so much joy and love over the years. I've attached some pictures of Simon and Oscar.  You'll see how much they look alike!

Hi,

I got a call on Friday to check in on our kitty Zwina (formerly known
as Peggy). She is doing great, we love her oodles! She had her first
vet appointment and everything looks great! Here is the email
announcement we sent out to family and friends when we first got her
home...

Hello family and friends!

Isaac and I are proud to announce our new arrival, Zwina. We have
been planning to get a kitty for a while now, and the time was
perfect. We visited the New Rochelle Humane Society and found a sweet
kitty that is fitting perfectly into our little home.
She was brought to the Humane Society back in August 2007 after she
showed up one day near an office complex. A man who regularly visits
the stray cats in that area, noticed that she was new and so was
another kitty. He brought the two of them to the shelter and they
became known as Peggy (our kitty) and Sue. Peggy was not crazy at all
about being in the shelter, but when we first got there she
immediately came to sit on my lap and started to purr. If another
kitty would come near us she would hiss and spat, she wasn't so crazy
about Sue either. So we thought we could give her a new home where
she could feel comfortable and not have to share with other kitties.
Turns out it's a perfect fit. She is five years old and in good
health, we have our first vet appointment next week. Here are some
photos of her from today!

Love, Isaac, Vanessa & Zwina

A note from a happy dad!

Thank you for taking the time to let me adopt Willow. She is doing great.
We discovered the hard way she is deaf. Explains a little bit the hyperness.
She can't hear anyone say, “Mellow out.” She absolutely loves my nephew (Her Toy).
She is very protective of him. If we are being rough with him, Willow comes over
and lays on top of him to get us to stop. Anyway thank you very much for a great dog.

                         Gary F.

Love you...

Mayo's  news

Hi NRHS folks,
I wanted to let you know how my new
Guy, Mayo, (previously known as Olsen) is doing.
After taking care of a few health issues, (he had a
tumor on his tongue, tested positive for feline
Bartonella virus, and an attempt to fix his bad eye)
he has settled in and is happy as a clam. He is a very
loving, affectionate fellow, loves to sit in my lap, and
plays like a wild thing. My older cat, Pickle, has
grudgingly accepted his presence and will even participate
in a few rounds of kitty racetrack with him in the morning.
He is a wonderful boy and I am delighted to have him in my
home.

         Best regards,
                    Hanna (and Mayo & Pickle)

   Meet Ambrosia (formerly Kelly Jo)

Healthy, happy, and right at home!

We adopted Ambrosia (then named Kelly Jo) from NRHS back in
March. Little did we know how sweet like Ambrosia she really would be! She has made herself right at home!  She's known now by a lot of different names around the house…Ambrosia being the legal one, but we call her Brosia, Little Girl, LG, Kitty…Kitty…Kitty. She’s affectionate and just the perfect best friend!

Thanks for letting us adopt the best kitty in the world!

An  update  from  Puffy's  MOM

Just wanted to thank you all again for Puffy (adopted 10-02). After many weeks of hiding, Puffy has sprung out of his shell. He and Monkey seem to tolerate each other. Puffy is laying on his back in the sun as I type this. From 11- 12 every night (really you can set your watch to this) he come into the livingroom and puts  on the Puffy song and dance show. He has become a very vocal cat.

A Happy note from Pepper's MOM

   Hi,
This is a picture of Pepper (nee Absolut Peach). She is Mama's
daughter. She is going to be spayed in the next two weeks or so.
She is an absolute maniac, more energy than any cat I've ever seen, and just a joy. We have really bonded and she has me trained quite well for the short amount of time she's had me. She fills my day with
laughter and affection. Thank you again for making this great relationship possible.

 BOUDICCA  (cLOVER)

Hi everyone at the New Rochelle Animal Shelter,

Thanks for checking in on Clover today. She is such a great cat! We've renamed her Boudicca  (pronounced Boo-di-ka) after a Celtic queen known for her fearlessness. It fits her well as she is unfazed by our dog,Bailey (also a rescue), and our three children, ages 5-1/2 through 10 months. She's settling in nicely -- so sweet! The kids loved the DVD that came with the adoption and learned so much. Thanks again for everything!
        Best,

A senior feline finds a senior friend

Hi,
I came down and adopted "Nugget" from your shelter on May 11th. I adopted her for my 82 year old mom. I just have to tell you that Nugget is the nicest cat, and she has made my mom so happy. She is a constant source of amusement and companionship for her. Most importantly, she gives my mom someone to care for, and makes her feel needed again.
I just wanted to say "thank you", and let you know that Nugget was doing great. (I know someone there has called a while ago to ask).

                          Sincerely,

Moyo's new home

Hi Everyone,
In the attached photo I caught Moyo in one of his catnaps.......I'll try to send a better picture, only my phone camera was handy at the time.
He and our other cat Bella have become best friends. They spend most of their time following each other around hardly every being out of sight of one another. They love to sprint around the house and practice ambushing each other. Although their favorite activity is sitting side-by-side on our cat perch, watching out the window.
Moyo is so good-natured and friendly, we couldn't ask for a better friend for Bella. Thank you all for taking such good care of him. He is a wonderful cat.

 Best regards,
